Supplementing Food with Qar

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was eating a gourd called Qar, which is a type of Dubba, and he used it to supplement his food.

It was narrated from Hakin bin Jabr that his father said: "I entered upon the Prophet in his house, and he had some of this gourd. I said: 'What is this?’ He said: 'This is Qar’; it is Dubba’. We augment our food with it".*

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that the Prophet (ﷺ) was using a type of gourd called Qar, which is also known as Dubba, to supplement his food. This shows us that even though the Prophet had access to many types of food, he still chose to use this simple gourd as an additional source of nutrition. It teaches us that we should be content with what we have and not strive for more than what is necessary. We should also be mindful about our health and make sure we are getting enough nutrients from our diet. Furthermore, it encourages us to look for natural sources of nutrition rather than relying on processed foods or supplements.
