Praying Without Ablution

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions ate food in the mosque and then prayed without performing ablution.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Harith bin Jaz’ Az-Zubaidi said: "We ate food with the Messenger of Allah in the mosque, meat that had been roasted. Then we wiped our hands on the pebbles and got up to perform prayer without performing ablution".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect places of worship; Be mindful of your environment; Find creative solutions when resources are limited
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's companions eating food in the mosque and then praying without performing ablution. This shows that it is permissible to pray without ablution, as long as one has not done anything that would invalidate their prayer, such as passing wind or urinating. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions when we are in a place of worship, such as a mosque. We should respect the sanctity of these places by being mindful of our behaviour and not doing anything inappropriate or disrespectful while inside them. Additionally, this hadith teaches us to be mindful of our environment; even though they did not have access to water at the time, they still found a way to clean their hands by wiping them on pebbles instead.
