Permissible Types of Dead Meat and Blood in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has allowed the consumption of two types of dead meat and two types of blood.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "Two kinds of dead meat and two kinds of blood have been permitted to us. The two kinds of dead meat are fish and locusts, and the two kinds of blood are the liver and spleen".

QUICK LESSONS:
Consume fish and locusts according to Islamic law guidelines

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about what kinds of food are permissible for Muslims to consume. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that two kinds of dead meat and two kinds of blood have been permitted to us. The two kinds of dead meat are fish and locusts, while the two kinds of blood are the liver and spleen. This means that these four items can be consumed by Muslims as part of their diet. It is important to note that this does not mean that all other forms or sources or meats or blood are forbidden; rather it simply means that these four items have been specifically mentioned as being permissible for consumption by Muslims. Additionally, it is important to note that even though these foods may be permissible for consumption they must still adhere to certain guidelines such as being slaughtered in a humane manner according to Islamic law before they can be consumed.
