The Prophet's Hardships

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his family often went without food for many nights, and their staple food was barley bread.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Messenger of Allah used to spend many nights in a row hungry and his family could find no supper, and usually their bread was barley bread".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain patient during difficult times; Trust in Allah's plan; Show gratitude towards Allah despite hardships

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the hardships that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his family faced in their daily lives. Despite being a leader of a nation, he still experienced poverty and hunger. He would often go for many nights without having any supper to eat. His staple food was barley bread which is a type of grain-based bread made from ground barley flour. This hadith serves as an example to us that even if we are facing difficulties in our lives, we should remain patient and trust in Allah’s plan for us as He knows best what is good for us. We should also remember that no matter how hard life gets, it can never compare to the struggles that the Prophet ﷺ faced during his lifetime.
