Sunan Ibn Majah 3866 (Book 34, Hadith 40) #33220
Supplicating to Allah

SUMMARY: When supplicating to Allah, one should do so with their palms facing up and when finished, wipe their face with them.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that : the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: "When you supplicate to Allah, supplicate with your palms uppermost, not with the backs of your hands uppermost, and when you finish, wipe your face with them".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray with your palms uppermost
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the proper way of supplicating to Allah. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, taught us that when we are making du'a or prayer to Allah, we should have our palms facing up and not the backs of our hands. After finishing the du'a or prayer, we should then wipe our faces with our hands. This teaches us that when we are praying or asking for something from Allah, it is important for us to show humility and respect by having an open heart and mind towards Him. We must also remember that after finishing a prayer or du'a it is important for us to take a moment of reflection in order to appreciate what has been given and thank Him for His blessings.
