The Dangers of Being a Slave to Money and Material Possessions

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the dangers of being a slave to money and material possessions.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "Wretched is the slave of the Dinar and the slave of the Dirham, and the slave of velvet and the slave of the Khamisah.* If he is given, he is pleased and if he is not given, he does not fulfill (his oath of allegiance)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be content with what Allah has given you; remain loyal even when you don't get what you want; strive for inner peace instead of relying on external sources for happiness; do not become a slave of your wealth or other material possessions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against becoming slaves to money and material possessions. It teaches us that if we are given wealth, we should be pleased with it, but if not, we should still remain loyal to Allah. We should not become so attached to our wealth that it controls our lives or causes us to break our oaths of allegiance. Instead, we should strive for contentment with whatever Allah has given us in life and remember that true happiness comes from within rather than from external sources such as money or material possessions.
