The Dangers of Being a Slave to Money

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned against the dangers of being a slave to money and material possessions.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said: "Wretched is the slave of the Dinar, the slave of the Dirham and the slave of the Khamisah. He is wretched and will be thrown (into Hell) on his face, and if he is pricked with a thorn may find no relief".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us about the dangers of becoming too attached to money and material possessions. It is narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said, “Wretched is the slave of the Dinar, the slave of the Dirham and the slave of Khamisah. He is wretched and will be thrown into Hell on his face, and if he is pricked with a thorn may find no relief." In this hadith, we are warned against becoming slaves to money or material possessions as it can lead us away from Allah's mercy. We should not become so attached to these things that we forget our purpose in life which is worshipping Allah. Instead, we should use our wealth in ways that please Allah such as charity or helping those in need. We should also remember that all wealth belongs to Allah so it must be used for His pleasure only.
