Sahih al-Bukhari 3566 (Book 61, Hadith 76) #3408
Praying in Al-Abtah

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet (ﷺ) offering a two-rak'at Zuhr prayer and a two-rak'at 'Asr prayer in Al-Abtah, while women and donkeys were passing in front of him.

Narrated Abu Juhaifa: By chance I went to the Prophet at noon while he was at Al-Abtah (resting) in a tent. Bilal came out (of the tent) and pronounced the Adhan for the prayer, and entering again, he brought out the water which was left after Allah's Messenger had performed the ablution. The people rushed to take some of the water. Bilal again went in and brought out a spear-headed stick, and then Allah's Messenger came out. As if I were now looking at the whiteness of his leg. Bilal fixed the stick and the Prophet offered a two-rak'at Zuhr prayer and a two-rak'at 'Asr prayer, while women and donkeys were passing in front of the Prophet (beyond the stick) .

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform ablutions before praying, Call others to pray through adhan

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's practice of praying at noon while he was at Al-Abtah. Bilal came out of the tent and called for people to pray by pronouncing the adhan. He then brought out water for ablution before Allah's Messenger performed his prayers. After that, Bilal brought out a spear headed stick which was used as a marker so that people could pass by without disturbing him during his prayers. The Prophet offered two rak’ats each for Zuhr and Asr prayers with women and donkeys passing beyond the stick as he prayed. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our surroundings when we are praying so that we can focus on our worship without any distractions or disturbances from others around us. It also shows us how important it is to perform ablutions before prayer as well as how important it is to call others to prayer through adhan so they can join in worshiping Allah together with us.
