Supplicating for Forgiveness on the Night of Decree

SUMMARY: Supplicate to Allah for forgiveness during the Night of Decree.

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: I asked: "O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?" He replied, "You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me)". At-Tirmidhi.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Aishah bint Abu Bakr as Siddiq speaks about supplicating to Allah for forgiveness during the Night of Decree or Lailat ul Qadr. This night is one of the holiest nights in Islam and is believed to be when Allah's decrees are revealed and written down. During this night, Muslims should spend their time in prayer and supplication asking for forgiveness from Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that one should recite “Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni” which translates to “O Allah! You are Most Forgiving; You love forgiveness; so forgive me” while making duas or supplications on this night. This hadith teaches us that we should always seek repentance from our Lord and ask Him for His mercy and blessings even if we have committed sins in our lives before. It also reminds us that no matter how many mistakes we make in life, God will always forgive us if we sincerely repent and ask Him for His mercy with a sincere heart.
