Performing Hajj on Behalf of an Elderly Person

SUMMARY: A woman asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) if she could perform Hajj on behalf of her elderly father who was too old to travel. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said yes.

Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah and said, "Allah's obligation upon His slaves has become obligatory on my father in his old age. My father is very old and incapable of riding. May I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said, "Yes". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Helping those in need and taking care of our elders even when they are no longer able to take care of themselves.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman who asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ if she could perform Hajj on behalf of her elderly father who was too old to travel. The Prophet ﷺ said yes and this shows us that it is permissible for someone else to do something in place of another person if they are unable to do it themselves due to age or other reasons. It also teaches us that we should help those in need and take care of our elders even when they are no longer able to take care of themselves.
