Riyad as-Salihin 1291 (Book 11, Hadith 7) #37780
The Merits of Ribat

SUMMARY: Performing Ribat (guarding the borders of an Islamic state) for a day and night is better than fasting for a month and praying all its nights. If one dies while performing this duty, they will receive perpetual reward and be saved from Al-Fattan.

Salman (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah as saying, "Observing Ribat in the way of Allah for a day and a night is far better than observing Saum (fasting) for a whole month and standing in Salat (prayer) in all its nights. If a person dies (while performing this duty), he will go on receiving his reward for his meritorious deeds perpetually, and he will be saved from Al- Fattan". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the merits of performing Ribat in the way of Allah. It is narrated by Salman ibn Fahd al-Awdah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he heard Prophet Muhammad ﷺ say that observing Ribat in the way of Allah for a day and a night is far better than observing Saum for a whole month and standing in Salat in all its nights. If someone dies while performing this duty, they will go on receiving their reward perpetually and will be saved from Al- Fattan. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to perform good deeds even if it requires sacrificing our time or comfort as it brings great rewards from God Almighty both in this world as well as hereafter. It also encourages us to guard our borders against any external threats or enemies so that peace can prevail within our society.
