Supplicating for Hearts to be Directed Towards Obedience

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the supplication of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to Allah, asking Him to direct our hearts towards His obedience.

'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah supplicated: "Allahumma musarrifal-qulubi, sarrif qulubana 'ala ta'atika (O Allah! Controller of the hearts, direct our hearts to Your obedience)". Muslim.
وعن عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص، رضي الله عنهما، قال‏:‏ قال رسول الله ‏:‏ ‏ "‏اللهم مصرف القلوب صرف قلوبنا على طاعتك‏"‏ ‏(‏‏(‏رواه مسلم‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have made a supplication or du'a to Allah, asking Him to musarrifal-qulubi or control the hearts and sarrif qulubana 'ala ta'atika or direct our hearts towards His obedience. This hadith teaches us that we should always ask Allah for guidance and help in order for us to stay on the right path and remain obedient. It also reminds us that it is only through His grace that we can stay true and faithful in our worship of Him. We should never forget that He alone has control over all things, including our own hearts.
