Seeking Safety from Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith teaches us to ask Allah for safety in this life and the hereafter.

Abul-Fadl Al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib (ra) reported: I asked the Messenger of Allah to teach me a supplication. He said, "Beg Allah for safety (from all evils in this world and in the Hereafter)". I waited for some days and then I went to him again and asked him: "O Messenger of Allah Teach me to supplicate something from Allah". He said to me, "O Al-'Abbas, the uncle of Messenger of Allah! Beseech Allah to give you safety (Al-'afiyah ) in this life and in the Hereafter". At- Tirmidhi.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about asking Allah for safety in this life and the hereafter. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked by his uncle Abul-Fadl Al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib to teach him a supplication. The Prophet ﷺ told him to ask Allah for safety from all evils in this world and the Hereafter. This means that we should always pray to Allah for protection from any harm or danger that may come our way. We should also remember that even though we may not be able to protect ourselves from every harm or danger, we can still seek refuge with Allah who is All Powerful and All Knowing. He will protect us if we turn to Him with sincere faith and trust in His power. Furthermore, it is important to remember that seeking safety does not only refer to physical protection but also spiritual protection as well; such as protecting oneself from sinning or falling into bad habits which can lead one astray from the path of righteousness.
