Riyad as-Salihin 1537 (Book 17, Hadith 27) #38026
The Consequences of Negligence and Gossip

SUMMARY: This hadith is about two people who were being punished for their sins, one of which was not taking care to avoid getting soiled with urine and the other was going around spreading rumors.

Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah passed by two graves and said, "Both of them (the persons in these graves) are being tortured, and they are not being tortured for a cardinal sin. But indeed they are great sins. One of them used not to save himself from being soiled with his urine, and the other one used to go about with calumnies (among the people to rouse hostilities, eg, one goes to a person and tells him that so-and-so says about him such and such evil things)". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that we should be careful in our actions as they can have consequences. It speaks of two people who were being punished for their sins, one of which was not taking care to avoid getting soiled with urine and the other was going around spreading rumors. These are both considered great sins in Islam, as they can cause harm to others or oneself. We must take responsibility for our actions and think before we act, as it could lead to punishment from Allah if we do something wrong. We should also strive to stay away from gossiping about others, as it can cause a lot of damage even if it is unintentional. By following these teachings, we can ensure that our actions will bring us closer to Allah instead of further away from Him.
