Riyad as-Salihin 1549 (Book 17, Hadith 39) #38038
The False Impression of Receiving Something

SUMMARY: Creating a false impression of receiving something one has not been given is wrong.

Asma' (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah and said: "I have a co-wife".Is there any harm for me if I give her the false impression of getting something from my husband which he has not in fact given me?" The Messenger of Allah said, "The one who creates a false impression of receiving what one has not been given is like one who wears two garments of falsehood". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and truthful in your dealings with others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of being honest and truthful in our dealings with others. It warns us against creating a false impression that we have received something when we have not. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ compared this to wearing two garments of falsehood, meaning that it is an act which is completely unacceptable and should be avoided at all costs. We should always strive to be honest and truthful in our dealings with others, as this will bring us closer to Allah and help us build strong relationships with those around us.
