Fighting in the Cause of Allah

SUMMARY: Fighting in the cause of Allah is only considered valid if it is done to ensure that the Word of Allah remains supreme.

Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that Messenger of Allah was asked about who fights in the battlefield out of valour, or out of zeal, or out of hypocrisy, which of this is considered as fighting in the cause of Allah? He said: "He who fights in order that the Word of Allah remains the supreme, is considered as fighting in the cause of Allah". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that fighting in the cause of Allah is only considered valid if it is done to ensure that the Word of Allah remains supreme. It does not matter whether one fights out of valour, zeal, or even hypocrisy; as long as they are doing it for this purpose, then their actions are seen as being in line with what Allah has commanded. The hadith also teaches us about how important it is to be sincere and honest when we do something for God's sake. We should always strive to make sure our intentions are pure and our actions reflect this purity.
