Stealing is a Major Sin

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned against stealing and showed that it is a major sin, even if the person dies in battle.

'Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: On the day (of the battle) of Khaibar, some Companions of the Prophet came and remarked: "So-and-so is a martyr and so-and-so is a martyr". When they came to a man about whom they said: "So-and-so is a martyr," the Prophet declared, "No. I have seen him in Hell for a mantle (or cloak) which he has stolen". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about an incident that happened during the Battle of Khaibar. Some Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) were discussing who was a martyr and who wasn't. When they came to one man, the Prophet (ﷺ) said he had seen him in Hell for stealing a mantle or cloak. This shows us that stealing is considered to be a major sin, even if someone dies in battle. It also teaches us that we should not judge people based on what we think they have done; only Allah knows what is truly in their hearts and He will judge them accordingly on Judgment Day. We should always strive to do good deeds and avoid any kind of wrongdoing so that we can be successful both here on Earth and in the Hereafter.
