In this hadith narrated by 'Aisha, a woman came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ seeking advice on a difficult situation. She had married two men in succession and wanted to know if she could remarry her first husband. The Prophet ﷺ advised her that before she can do so, it is necessary for her to consummate the marriage with the second man. This teaches us that divorce is not something taken lightly in Islam; it should be done only after careful consideration of all factors involved and should be seen as a last resort when all other options have been exhausted. Furthermore, it also shows us that Islam places great importance on fulfilling marital obligations even if one has gone through divorce proceedings; in this case it was necessary for the woman to consummate her marriage with the second man before being able to remarry her first husband again.
