EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how to send salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad and his family. The narrator, 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Laila, recounts that Ka'b bin 'Ujra told him that once when the Prophet visited them they asked him how to send salutations upon him. The prophet then taught them a prayer which is known as “Salat” in Arabic. In this prayer one should say “Allahumma Salli ala Muhammadin wa 'ala Ali Muhammadin, kama sal-laita 'ala all Ibrahima innaka Hamidun Majid” which means “O Allah! Send your blessings on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammed just as you sent your blessings on Abraham; You are indeed worthy of all praise and glory”. This prayer is an important part of Islamic tradition as it shows respect for the prophet and his family while also praising God for His greatness.
