Sahih Muslim 88b (Book 1, Hadith 167) #7432
Major Sins and False Testimony

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) discussed the major sins and highlighted false utterance or false testimony as the gravest of them all.

Ubaidullah b. Abu Bakr said: I heard Anas b. Malik saying: The Messenger of Allah talked about the major sins, or he was asked about the major sins. Upon this he observed: Associating anyone with Allah, killing of a person, disobedience to parents. He (the Prophet further) said: Should I not inform you about the gravest of the major sins, and (in this connection) observed: False utterance or false testimony. Shu'ba said. It was most probably" false testimony".

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey your parents/guardians/elders etc., stay away from sinning including associating anyone with Allah etc., always speak truthfully even if it goes against your own interests or desires etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) discussed the major sins which are known as al-kaba’ir in Arabic and highlighted false utterance or false testimony as the gravest of them all. He also mentioned other major sins such as associating anyone with Allah, killing of a person, and disobedience to parents. These are considered to be very serious offenses in Islam that can lead to severe punishments both in this world and hereafter if not repented for sincerely. It is important for Muslims to remember that lying is one of the worst things they can do because it goes against their faith which requires truthfulness at all times even if it means going against their own interests or desires. Furthermore, Muslims should strive to stay away from any kind of sinning so that they may remain on the path towards righteousness and success both in this life and hereafter inshaAllah!
