Sahih Muslim 90a (Book 1, Hadith 169) #7434
The Sin of Abusing Parents

SUMMARY: Abusing one's parents is a major sin, and even abusing the parents of another person is also considered a sin.

It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah b. Amr b. al-'As that the Messenger of Allah observed: Abusing one's parents is one of the major sins. They (the hearers) said: Messenger of Allah, does a man abuse his parents too? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Yes, one abuses the father of another man, who in turn abuses his father. One abuses his mother and he in turn abuses his (the former's) mother.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your elders and show mercy towards those who wrong you or your family members

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of respecting one's parents and not abusing them in any way. It teaches us that even if someone else abuses our parents, we should not retaliate by abusing their own parents as this too is considered a major sin in Islam. We should instead forgive them and show mercy to those who have wronged us or our family members, as this is what Allah expects from us as believers. Furthermore, it teaches us that we must be mindful of our words and actions when it comes to our elders, especially our own parents who have done so much for us throughout our lives.
