Sahih Muslim 102 (Book 1, Hadith 190) #7455
Honesty is a Virtue

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of honesty and not deceiving people.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah happened to pass by a heap of eatables (corn). He thrust his hand in that (heap) and his fingers were moistened. He said to the owner of that heap of eatables (corn): What is this? He replied: Messenger of Allah, these have been drenched by rainfall. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Why did you not place this (the drenched part of the heap) over other eatables so that the people could see it? He who deceives is not of me (is not my follower).

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and transparent in all your dealings with others; practice sincerity; do not deceive anyone; tell the truth even if it hurts you; do what is right even if no one sees you doing it; have integrity in your words and actions; trustworthiness should be your guiding principle when dealing with other people's matters or belongings etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of being honest and truthful in all aspects of life. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was passing by a heap of corn when he noticed that some parts were wet due to rainfall. He asked the owner why he did not put it on top so that people could see it, implying that one should be honest and transparent with others. The Prophet then said “He who deceives is not of me” meaning that those who are dishonest are not his followers. This hadith teaches us to always be truthful and sincere in our dealings with others as this is an important part of being a Muslim. It also encourages us to practice transparency in our actions so as to avoid any form of deception or dishonesty which can lead to mistrust between individuals or communities.
