Last night, in Washington DC, we launched a Muslim Comedy festival. It was a success, but revealed some important lessons.

1. It’s wasteful to talk about Muslim image of its not a conversation about Muslim excellence.

2. The Prophetic narrative of the Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) is a call to action for the Muslim/ non-Muslim to frame identity, through a prism of service and devotion, and maintain excellence as pathway to uplifting of the human condition.

3. A smile is not just charity. It’s a response, and many times a challenge to those who threaten our sacred joy.

May Allah, in most difficult situations, crease the sides of our mouths to smile, and still seek out excellence our character and actions.
