All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.A menstruating woman is permitted neither to touch nor to write the Quran. Al-Kharashi a Maaliki scholar, said: "Touching the Mus-haf (copy of the Quran): It means that being in a state of impurity prevents one to touch a Mus-haf which is written in Arabic. Writing is like touching in this regard unless it is a verse in a book, basmalah (In the Name of Allaah) or a part of the Quran or religious admonishments in a paper," he added.Nevertheless, if there is a need for this, as is the case in the question, it is permissible. Mentioning the disallowed things due to menstruating, Ad-Dusooqi a Maaliki scholar, said: "Touching the Mus-haf, unless she is a teacher or student, for it is permissible for her to touch it in this case."Allaah Knows best.
