Topic: Al-Hasan Al-Basri''s statement about believers interceding for their friends on the Day of Judgment

Question 100363: Assalaamu alaykum Shaykh. I want to know about is this statement attributed to Hassan Basri, who was reported to have said, "Have lots of believing friends because they will be able to intercede for you on the day of Judgment." Is this saying authentic or weak? And what is the source of this statement? I am asking because have seen it being widely spread on social media. Your response regarding this matter will be greatly appreciated. May Allaah reward you.

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad (saw) is His slave and Messenger. This statement was stated by some interpreters of the Quran, such as As-Samaani in his Tafseer (interpretation of the Quran), Al-Baghawi in his Tafseer entitled Maaalim at-Tanzeel, and other interpreters of the Quran reporting it from Al-Hasan al-Basri without any chain of narrators. However, after investigation, we have not come across this statement having a chain of narration in any books; so we are not able to issue a ruling about it on whether it is authentic or weak. Allaah knows best about its authenticity.Allaah knows best.  (Source: islam_web) Classified in Noble Hadeeth > Sciences of Hadith
