Question 3074: As Salaam U Alaikum Wa Rahmatallah My question is regarding your opinion on The AMC, American Muslim Council, their purpose, and method. I am an International Politics major, and I am finding myself confused as to what I can do, What I am Allowed to do, and what I should do, (in regards to my major, and my deen)!! For example, Is working for the AMC, Haram Halal Makru? Jazakallahu Khairun, and any info., islamic opinion, and further research sites would be appreciated. As Salaam u alaikum wa Rahmatallah
Dear Br. W. As-salaamu alaykum. You may work with the AMC and with any other organization that helps the Muslims. If you want to learn about the AMC's purpose and methods, consider contacting its offices, or meeting its staff, or even spending some time as an intern before you decide if you want to work with it in the future. Like any institutions, whether it is the AMC or Islamicity (including this Ask the Imam section), there are instances when its staff commits mistakes. If this occurs in any of the organizations you decide to work with, try to remedy the situation in an objective and polite way. The Muslim Ummah is one body and we have to help each other as true brothers and sisters. As to your dilemma on what you should do, always seek the work that satisfies you the most, where you can apply your expertise and where you earn Halal income, even if the salary is a little lower. Remember, it is God who provides and not your employer. Therefore, seek the Islamically acceptable job. Thank you for asking and God knows best.
