Question 875: Bismillah il Rahman il Rahim Assalam-aleikum! 1. Is it really necessary to have the khutba in arabic (at all)? In our mosque we have a khutba in arabic for 25 minutes and 5 minutes translation (summary) to swedish. 2. Some people asked me a question: You muslims say that the Quran is so miracolous and have so many scientific facts, which were unknown at the prophets time. So you claim that no other but God could have known those things. The Quran even states that there (probably) are other people in the universe. If so, could it be possible that (very advanced) people from other planets came and gave us the informaton or even the Quran? - What should I answer? Help me find something which is suitable for this topic. I belive that many people (even muslims) think it may be a alternative explanation for the Holy Qurans power... Aozo bilahi minash shaitan ar rajiim, ashadu an la ilaha ill Allah. Jazak allah Kheiran!

Dear Br. As-Salaamu alaykum. The Khutbah does not need to be in Arabic. It is allowed to be presented in the language of the people who attend it because its real intent is to make people understand what the speakers wants to say. However, if the people are of mixed nationalities and some of them are of Arabic origin, then giving a portion of it in Arabic may be useful but not obligatory so that the non-Arabic speaking people get used to listening to the language and get encouraged to learn it since it is the best way to understand the religion. Regarding the last question, no, it is not possible that advanced people taught the Qur'an to the Muslims for so many reasons. First of all, the companions of prophet Muhammad(pbuh) used to be sometimes with him when he was receiving the revelation. They witnessed the process, described it very clearly, and there were scribes who wrote the words immediately. Their description, which even non-Muslim scholars who specialize in the collection of the Qur'an attest that it is authentic and not fabricated, shows that there were no strange creatures or beings coming from elsewhere. Second, you can analyze the style of the Qur'an to see that it is not man-made, rather, in many places, it is a direct address of God to his believers such as: 'O you who believe', or 'Say so and so' or 'Do this and that', 'In You (God) we believe and in You (God) we seek help, etc.. Third, if there were indeed people from another planet to teach us and were very advanced, then it is very strange to accept that their Arabic language was very compatible to the people of the land of Arabia, including their dialect which was very specific to that region. This is a highly unreasonable and unlikely explanation. In addition, the verses that carry scientific facts are just few in the Qur'an and are only meant to give us a reflection of the power of God. The Qur'an is not a science book. Thank you for asking and God knows best. (Source: IslamiCity) Classified in Khutbah, Quran >
