Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.Since you did not know that the kitten was in the laundry, so you have no responsibility in killing it when turning on the dryer because this act is beyond your will. However, killing the kitten with no justified reason is illegal in Shariah. Anyway, you should now repent to Allah and you do not have to expiate for this act, although your giving away some Sadaqa will be a good thing to do.Allah knows best.
