Asalamoalikum: I'm a college student interested in learning more about Islam. AlhamduliAllah, I know the basics of Islam and some Arabic. What are good instructional texts and strategies for learning about Islam? There is much information and I'm not sure where to begin. I'm also weary of what sources, besides Qur'an and Sunnah, are acceptable. Thank you for your help.
As-Salamu `alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger. We commend your keenness on getting your self well-acquainted with Islam and its teachings, and we implore Allah Almighty to help us serve His cause and render our work for His Sake. The Glorious Qur'an says: "And hold fast,All together, by the rope Which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves;" [Al-Qur'an 3:103] Which is the rope of Allah that is being referred to in this verse? It is the Glorious Qur'an. The Glorious Qur'an is the rope of Allah which all Muslims should hold fast together. There is double emphasis in this verse. Besides saying 'hold fast all together' it also says, 'be not divided'. Qur'an further says, "Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger" [Al-Qur'an 4:59] The Glorious Qur'an mentions in several verses, "Obey Allah and obey His Messenger". A true Muslim should only follow the Glorious Qur'an and the Sahih Hadith. He can agree with the views of any scholar as long as they conform to the teachings of the Qur'an and Sahih Hadith. If such views go against the Word of Allah, or the Sunnah of His Prophet, then they carry no weight, regardless of how learned the scholar might be. If you are still in need of more information, don't hesitate to contact us. Do keep in touch. May Allah guide us all to the straight path! Wassalam and Allah Almighty knows best. (Source: IslamiCity)

Question 1097
:
Assalamu Alikum, A chineses friend asked me: how he can know the true religion and what is the difference between the religions, first I mentioned that he has to beleive in God, then I told him in brief the story of creation and the prophets and the holy books, I said all the religions are true because they are from the same source (GOD) but Islam is the last one, and Muslims believe in all religions while others do not believe in Islam. Please give me the correct answer for that question or if you have any comments about it. Jazak Allah Khairan
***dd 1097: Dear M.A. As-salaamu alaykum. The best thing you can do to someone searching about God and religion is to get involved in discussions with him under the condition that you equip yourself with knowledge so you don't give wrong information. Therefore, do three things: First-Talk to him and show the good characters of a Muslim that Islam teaches us: from high morals, to abstaining from drinking alcohol, drugs, smoking, then, be generous, hospitable, don't backbite, and be truthful and sincere... etc. This is one of the very effective ways of giving Da'wa or invitation to Islam, because people associate things with other things: a good person who is a Muslim means that his/her religion teaches him/her good manners. Second - read about the issues he is interested in. If you don't know the answer or are not sure, it is better to tell him: 'I'll check' and show him how careful you are about the accuracy of knowledge rather than simply making up things that may make sinns for you. Remember, you are dealing with Divine issues, not with discussing about the value of a book or the taste of a dish. Third -share with him some no-non-sense books about Islam. These books must be straight, clear, brief, and stimulating. Don't give him boring things just to flood him with knowledge. As to your comments to him, Muslims believe in all of the original divine scriptures and their prophets and messengers: see Surah al-Baqara (2) verse 285. Muslims don't believe in man-made religions or divine books that have been misconstrued by men. Thank you for asking and God knows best. (Source: IslamiCity)
