Turkiye and Syria Emergency Appeal

Devastating Earthquake in Turkiye & Syria

TĂĽrkiye and Syria are suffering the aftermath of one of the most devastating earthquakes to hit the area. Currently, the fatality count is over 50,000 and 122,500 injured. The number of casualties is increasing, and it is uncertain how many people are still entombed by the debris or lost.

Buildings have collapsed, people evacuated their homes, and those who were able to survive spent the aftermath in their cars in extreme cold.

Rescue teams are frantically looking for survivors. As time passes, the victims lost under the rubble have a lower chance of survival. At least 20 aftershocks have hit since, the strongest measuring 6.6 magnitude.

The WHO estimates the earthquake has impacted 23 million people, yet for many living along the Syrian-Turkish border, the situation has exacerbated an already dire situation. Millions of Syrian refugees are already coping with a cholera outbreak and harsh winter storms, living in appalling conditions with little access to healthcare. The earthquake, which has caused immense destruction to buildings already ravaged by over a decade of conflict, coupled with the fierce winter weather and the economic crisis, is hampering the delivery of aid to the area.

Thousands of people are out in the open, in the freezing weather with inadequate shelter, food or clothing. They might be missing family members, friends or have no idea when they will be able to go home. For Syrian refugees, the little that they have has been taken from them. They urgently need food, warm clothing, and emergency bedding. Our partners are already providing life-saving assistance to those in need in Gaziantep and Sanliurfa, but we need your help to do more.

The following items are being distributed on the ground by our local partner organization:

  • 50,000 liters of fuel to operate life-saving vehicles and ambulances.
  • 2,500+ warmth supplies such as blankets, coats, and raincoats.
  • 5,000 cans of food.
  • 2,000 mattresses and pillows
  • 500 female hygiene kits
  • Medical supplies to the heavily affected areas.

We invite you to join us in assisting our brothers and sisters in TĂĽrkiye and Syria during this difficult period.
