Assalaamualaikum, Say: "obey Allah and obey the
Messenger, but if you turn away, he (Messenger Muhammad SAW) is only
responsible for the duty placed on him (i.e. to convey Allahs Message) and you
for that placed on you. If you obey him, you shall be on the right guidance. The
Messengers duty is only to convey (the message) in a clear way (i.e. to preach
in a plain way)." O you who believe! obey Allah and
His Messenger, and turn not away from him (i.e. Messenger Muhammad SAW) while
you are hearing. And obey Allah and His Messenger,
and do not dispute (with one another) lest you lose courage and your strength
depart, and be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are As-Sabirin (the
patient ones, etc.). And obey Allah and the Messenger
(Muhammad SAW) that you may obtain mercy. O you who believe! obey Allah, and
obey the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) and render not vain your deeds. O you who believe! obey Allah and
obey the Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and those of you (Muslims) who are in
authority. ( سورة
النس 1575;ء , An-Nisa, Chapter #4,
Verse #59) And obey Allah and the Messenger
(Muhammad SAW), (
سورة المائدة , Al-Maeda, Chapter #5,
Verse #92) So fear Allah and adjust all
matters of difference among you, and obey Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad
SAW), if you are believers. and obey Allah and His Messenger.
Allah will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. Remember, it is important where you get your study material from, there are many books which contain fabricated hadith and information. Always check with knowledgable people. May Allah guide us all to the right path. Wassalaam. |

Assalaamualaikum
Allah has asked us in the Quran to obey Him AND His Messenger ie Prophet Muhammad (saw). This command has appeared in many places in the Quran. (I will post as many as I can, soon.) Each and everything is not written in the Quran for example how to pray, we have to refer to the hadith and sunnah of the Prophet(saw) for guidance. THe Prophet(saw) was always surrounded by companions who noted what he said (hadith) and also what he did (sunnah). These were recorded. Most of them accurately. There are few inaccurate hadith which scholars over the centuries have taken pains to differentiate. It is common sense that any hadith that goes against the quran is invalid. If we do not follow any hadith at all then we are not following the Prophet(saw) and going against the command of Allah in the Quran. How can we obey the Prophet if we disregard hadith and sunnah? Why did Allah send the Prophet? He could have just sent the quran? He sent the Prophet as a living example of how to be a Muslim. His wife Aisha (ra) was asked about the Prophet's character and she replied his character was the Quran. After the Quran, we have to look in the hadith for guidance. Insha Allah I will post some verses that tell us to obey the Prophet(saw) and then you can decide for yourself. ![]() Allah knows best. Wassalaam. |

there are some Muslims who argue we should follow only the Quran and others say you have to follow the Sunnah and Hadith too.
Which one is correct? OR, does both sides have some right and wrong to them? |

I have another question. What's up with the "Qur'an only" versus "Qur'an plus Hadith/Sunnah" doctrines?

Bismillah irrahman irrahim Assalamu alaikum There are few books with commentary but i am afraid all of them are in arabic. As i said its not for a common folk to drive laws out of ahadith. But as i can see you want to learn, i think you should start with Holy Quran and its tafaasir. Most of the issues are explained and the related ahadith are also presented there which explain the true meaning of those ahadith. Now if you want to learn about the laws of different acts then you have to get some fiqh books. There are quite few good ones available in english these days. There is al-hidayah, which i think is hanafi, then there is reliance of traveler which is shafi', and the distinguished jurists primer which helps you with how different school of thoughts have come up with thier rules but it is written by a maliki scholar. Ahadith collections are just to learn about what Sayyidina Muhammad (saw) has said in so many words about different things. If you have knowledge of Holy Quran in your heart then thats the next step. wassalam |

I have been looking over the collection of Hadith that you posted. I assume that there is commentary by teachers as well as information about historical context for each hadith. Do you know where I could find this?
