Daniel,

How is your recovery from your surgery?

Al-Hamdulillah (From a Married Muslimah) La Howla Wa La Quwata Illa BiLLah - There is no Effort or Power except with Allah's Will.

Goodness

This all makes interesting reading, I am working my way through gradually! This is what I am looking for, mutual respect and discussion about different religions. Some replies from a couple of the other forums disheartened me a little (one person said that not enough people had died in the London bombings, I have heard all I want to hear from people like that for now and want to hear about different faiths in a wider sense.)and I was not going to come back to the site.  So I chose to look in to a different discussion and I am glad I did.

I want a more balanced knowledge on as many faiths as possible. I know a lot about Christianity (not everything!) but little about Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism. Hearing about your faith is fascinating, Daniel and the replies and questions from others on the site teach me about their beliefs too.

'Islamaphobia' as it has been dubbed, is a worry. I have heard people around me speaking badly of Muslims. I want to arm myself with more knowledge so I can show them that not all Muslims are bad, remarkably some people are ignorant enough to believe that all Muslims want to kill them. I am probably going to cause trouble for myself but I honestly believe that we should learn more about eachother and stop being so afraid of our fellow humans.

So, I will continue wading through this thread and trying to learn as much about this faith as possible! Any pointers on good books/ sites etc to learn the basics of Islam are welcomed!

Hi again

I have been back and read through the forum that I posted in before again (current events-London). People have posted since and are as disgusted as me by his comments. I am so glad that although he managed to get his voice heard, his sentiments were not tolerated.

Salaam Aliecum Clarabelle,

There are some very unhappy lonely and angry people out there. The
older I get the more I realize it's not about ME. It's more complicated.
and a lot more hard to control It's about US.

What I have learned so far about Islam has taught me all I had hoped to
find, expected to find and then there were the surprises.

What i had hoped to find was a basically tolerant and open society that
enabled communication and cooperation with other faiths with out
predjustice or paranoia.

I was surprised just how extensive and important
demonstrative generosity and charity played a part in dealing with other
religions outside of Islaam. Built in to this is a real heavy issue regarding
respect and when that respect or initial trust is trespassed the issue
becomes one of justice.

A devout muslim will not avoid or fear you if they feel they have been
wronged. The belief in Allah demands a decision be made to forgive or
pursue justice. There's no pretending that nothing happened unless you
are dealing with a child.

Jews are different in that we generally stay to ourselves. We are not
gregarious like the Muslim. We feel we have no "back" Allah is the
ultimate back.

One doesn't die until Allah says so. If you (a Muslim) are doing the right
thing a good thing a generous crazy gesture typically... How do you do?
Ya Hungry? come home with me borrow my car..." with a total stranger
with whom you've exchanged five words...
Allah is cool with that and you as a Muslim feel safe- Even joyful because
you are pleasing God by being well, nice.

We are generous in secret to each other and to the poor the Goyim
(Means Nations). We believe all nations to be our equals (The chosen
people includes everyone after Abraham Not just Jews. Get off it), but we
assume they- the Goyim -everyone else non jewish- hate us, or are too
weak in the face of the powers that rule them to afford us reasonable
loyalty or in turn enjoy our heartfelt trust. We expect to be nailed.

I expected to be nailed but this was no way to live in the world. What? In
the end Hitler wins? We become the paranoid gun toting abused children
of Israel? I don't think so. I couldn't stand it.

I pretended at first to be fearless and to trust. I made no secret about
being a Jew and hitched around Palestine unarmed and alone. The only
time I was ever in danger was when I came across settlers who wanted to
know why the (Explicative) Arabs hadn't killed me.

It's so simple.

"The chosen

Well Daniel in our book the koran, Allah tells us that the childeren of Israel are chosen above the rest of mankind upon a certain knowledge..." maybe also interessting that the middle east and Israel is right in the center between Europe Africa and Asia, if you look at a middle eastern person or a jew from that area you can find european, african and asian features in his face, because it is the place where i think African, Asian and European people met and mixed, so out of a mixed breed, Allah on a certain knowledge chose a people over mankind , i find this interesting do'nt you? being chosen over mankind means a great responsibility i think, if we look at the arabic word for jew, it's yahood, yahdee which means guides has a connection to it, or the word hudaa which means guidance, indeed a great responsibility. I do not envy you, nor do i feel i have something better then you, we all have our responsibilities and things we need to do, the thing that worries me right now is this, what if we are not doing what we should be doing? i wonder... Still the fact that jews are chosen over mankind is clear to me, because all they need to do is start implementing His laws, and this would cause others to follow their example, muslims and christians, because it is their failing to implement His laws in the holy land that is causing so much anger and injustice in the holy land.
