Exactly what Ihsan means - to worship Him as if you see Him, if not He surely sees you. Blanking our mind from other thoughts but Him alone. Let me cut and paste from this link - http://www.spiritualfoundation.net/whatistasawwuf.htm#95185440 The phrase "awareness of God," is my translation of the word ihsan, which literally means "doing what is beautiful." I have rendered it as "awareness of God" in view of the sound hadith in which the Angel Gabriel [alayhis Salaam] asked the Beloved Prophet Muhammad [Allah shower His Mercy Upon Him & give Him Peace], "What is ihsan ?" He replied, "Ihsan is that you should worship God as if you see Him; and if you do not see Him, [you should know that] He sees you." The concept of ihsan, with particular attention to its Qur'anic roots, occupies an entire chapter in what is arguably the best book in English on basic Islamic concepts, Murata and Chittick's Vision of Islam. The first Sufi to compose a compendium on Tasawwuf, Sarraj (d. 378/988-89), linked ihsan to "vigilant awareness" (muraqaba). He stated, "Vigilant awareness is for a servant who indeed knows and is certain that Allah is aware of and knows what is in his heart (qalb) and consciousness (damir). So he stays vigilantly aware of despicable thoughts that [would otherwise] preoccupy the heart and keep it from remembering his Master. Qushayri (d. 465/1072), like Sarraj, saw ihsan to be related to "vigilant awareness" (muraqaba). Specifically, he referred to the aspect of ihsan mentioned in the part of the hadith, "If you do not see him [know] that indeed he sees you" as alluding to "vigilant awareness" because "vigilant awareness" "is the servant's knowledge of the Lord's constant awareness of him."
What happens if a Muslim is guilty of not observing the 5 pillars of Islam and the 6 pillars of iman? What do you consider him? |

Hi Angel, I believe that many forms of alternative medicine are very valuable, but not all of them. What they all need is a good scientific foundation, or the search for a good scientific foundation in those cases of cause and effect clearly correlating, but the search for the exact nature of the cause is still ongoing. A good example is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acupuncture#Gate-control_theory_of_pain I'm not an exert in energy medicine, but there seems to be good approaches and not so good approaches, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_medicine A photo and/or a name and birth date of the patient as the sole basis for remote healing does not work. There needs to be a connection with the patient. Everything else is magic. So it does not just help much more if the person getting the healing knows, it is a requirement in my opinion. One reason Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Abd Allah ibn Sina became such a great scientist, philosopher and physician 1000 years ago was his capability of critical thinking and his opposition to superstition. He valued scientific method. It took Europeans half a millenium to rediscover scientific method and lay the foundation for modern science and medicine. Edited by Matt Browne - 23 May 2010 at 3:24am |

There are several authentic hadiths, according to which people were said to come to the Prophet for spiritual remedies for their illnesses and that of their kith and kin. The Prophet, of course, prayed for them, but only after suggesting remedies in the form of medicines. Often he would advise the patients to consult the best physician in the area.
These occasions and Prophetic hadiths led Muslims to believe in the rationale of using medicine rather than resorting to charms and incantations. On several occasions he exhorted them not to depend on supernatural methods of healing. He is also reported to have said, charm is nothing but a work of Satan. |

Hi Matt, even thou I mentioned earlier that it works without knowing the person/patient - which do come from varies readings/studies, I do have my issues with it and on par with you. I get thinking about big disasters that happen and i'm sure there are many people that are praying and sending out good/positive vibes that those affected get well but still those people are still in the same place.
And also it can be of the opposite, which wouldn't be healing then.
Anyway I'm tired and need my bed and probably shouldn't be discussing an in depth topic
If you like I can bring some book titles that i really like & recommend if you want to get more on energy medicine.

So you have nothing to quote from the Islamic sources of Shari'ah namely the Qur'an and the Sunnah. All the references you have given are newly invented matter (Bid'ah) Edited by abosait - 26 May 2010 at 9:44am |

Hi Angel, the following would make sense to me: the relatives of the patient know about the remote healing efforts and it gives them hope. The next time they visit the patient they don't tell him or her about the remote healing efforts, but the renewed hope shows in their faces and body language. Hope can be contagious and as a result improve the chances for a recovery. |
