and how is this not 'associating partners with allah'?

The worship for Muhammad seems as great, or greater, than the worship of the Creator.  It seems that adoration for the Creator is negated without Muhammad.

Shouldn't it be that no one can live without the Creator?
Isn't this elevating Muhammad above Creator?

Shouldn't 'hearts run to the Creator'? ... not to Muhammad.
and shouldn't one be able to say that there is 'only one God', with or without the addition of Muhammad?

Caring heart I explain to you first of all there is no barrier between Allah and his creation.Maulana Tariq jameel explained very nicely-La illaha illallah Muhammadurrasoollullah.he said that passport is to believe in oneAllah and visa is life of prophet MMuhammad S.A.W ( pbuh ),like I m conveying message of Allah to you and other I could have tell you in harsh words but prophet Muhammad S.A.W ( pbuh ) spread it peacefully and with respect.prophet Muhammad S.A.W ( pbuh ) is an example given to mankind by Allah to how to lead a peaceful life,eg prophet Muhammad S.A.W ( pbuh ) ones was walking and a woman used to throw garbage on him daily one day she didn't turned up so learning that she was ill prophet Muhammad S.A.W ( pbuh ) visited her to know reason for illness seeing this the woman got reverted to islam, from this episode we learn how to turn harsh people towards ourselves, how to swallow anger,yes it is necessary for every muslim to love prophet Muhammad S.A.W ( pbuh ) but ur view is wrong think y prophet Muhammad S.A.W ( pbuh ) was targeted always why he was ridiculed, why he left mecca his birthtown because he strived for one message-to believe in one Allah.Allah regards prophet Muhammad S.A.W ( pbuh ) as Muqamam Mahmud in ch 17 v 79.
