O.K. Let's say that our religion has been hijacked.

Who has hijacked Christianity? Where are the Christians who live as Christ taught? I mean, really live as Christ taught.

Remember, there is a long list of criteria here:

Worship only one God

Love thy neighbor

Do not bear false witness

Throw away worldly goods, remember it is harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle

Turn the other cheek

Not living by the sword

No commiting adultery

No commiting murder

The meek shall inherit the earth

Give in charity, as long as one of you are hungry all of you are hungry

etc....

Where are the true Christians?

Mishmish, would you be offended - or even surprised - to read these statements in a popular Muslim magazine?

"True, the Bible does lack integrity,"

"Christianity has an undeniable dark side"

"puts Christianity in a positive light whenever possible"

"True, Paul was as much a sinner as anyone"

I have heard all those statements (and worse) made here in one form or another and do not find them offensive.  I expect Muslims to have a different viewpoint.

"True, Paul was as much a sinner as anyone"

Shouldn't that be Jesus? Perhaps this would be a bit more offensive, yet closer to what we feel.

Christianity's sins are well documented.  The Crusades, the Inquistion, the Dark Ages, the destruction of Native Cultures all over the world. The fractures and the schisms that have given risen to 1000s of denominations.  The Great Apostacy.

Remember, there is a long list of criteria here:

Worship only one God

Trinitarians do believe in one God.  However, I would argue the same thing that Muslims argue.  Corruption of the scriptures.

Love thy neighbor

Many of us do this....not all.

Do not bear false witness

Lying is a sin, in any faith

Throw away worldly goods, remember it is harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle

Greed is the tool of the Devil, there are many who are weak in this one.  But, hey, so are their Muslims, Jews and Buddhists who succumb to this sin.

Turn the other cheek

Yep, this one gets lost by alot of people to...

Not living by the sword

This is one WE CAN ALL USE!!!!!!  Remember, thou shall not Kill!

No commiting adultery

I don't have a problem with this one.

No commiting murder

Again, this is straight across the board.

The meek shall inherit the earth

The meek....that's after the apocalypse....the non meek are going to hell from what I understand.  Remember, its supposed to get really, really, really bad before it gets better.

Give in charity, as long as one of you are hungry all of you are hungry

This is the Law of Tithing (zakat), thus again, I don't have a problem with this.

etc....

Where are the true Christians?

Where are the True Christians, they are out there.  They are out there just like the Good Muslims and Good Jews.

Can you understand that perception is everything.  All you see are adulterous greedy hypocrites in the Christians.  Why?

The Media.  Hollywood and Liberalism.

Wow, now what's the cause for Most people seeing only the evil in the Islamic community.....

The media, Hollywood and Conservative pro Bush automatons.

When anyone does something in the name of others and gets vocal enough about it, the other side seems to think that's the way things are.....You ask those questions.  The answers are the same as what you give me when I ask the questions.

Hi Mishmish,

Yeah, Jesus would be OK but with the Muslim belief in the inerrancy of prophets I doubt it would come up in that way.  I know a lot of Muslims feel that way.  People being confused about my religion is something I expect - to offend me, somebody has to get personal.

I'm sure you have had to straighten out a few anti-Christian Muslims just like I have had to stick up for Islam on quite a few occasions.  I also imagine we have misstated things about each other's religions in those discussions, but I imagine the larger truth is advanced.

David and Angela:

My religion is very personal. It is the basis of my life. Every action I take every day is anchored in Islam. I am aware that every thing I say, every action, every deed is recorded and will be brought to witness for or against me on the Day of Judgement. There is no aspect of my life that is free of Islam.

Perhaps this is why Muslims are more easily offended. And why most non-Muslims just don't understand.

It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, what is essential is invisible to the eye. (The Little Prince)

David and Angela,

Usually I do not praise people in front of them but when I do it is in the form of a beautiful "backbite".

I don't have to say anything about you two.

Best Regards

BMZ
