Assalaamu alaikum

Please excuse my ignorance (if this hadith has already been quoted), for I have not read through all the 18 pages of this thread..

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (RA): Once Allahs Messenger (SAW) went out to the Musalla

(to offer the Salat) of Eid-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of the Hell-fire were you (women). They asked, Why is it so, O Allahs Messenger? He replied, You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be lead astray by some of you. The women asked, O Allahs messenger! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion? He said, Is not the witness (evidence) of two women equal to the witness of one man? They replied in the affirmative. He said, This is the deficiency in your intelligence. Isnt it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses? The women replied in the affirmative. He said, This is the deficiency in your religion.

But if god made them that way and if god sent down the rule that 2 women must give evidence - how can he criticize them? He is criticizing his own creation? He made the women deficient AND he decided to invoke a sexist rule that makes women look bad.

If that's the case, then there's no reason why we cannot criticise either ourselves or him. Criticism is, apparently, completely valid.

Kim...

Bismillah
It is rather sad that some poeple should be called American muslim, or even arab muslim, we are all Muslims, and as for Americans, she seems to be saying that only in america can there be equality and justice. not entirely true.
If women were permitted to lead the salaat, it would have happened a long time ago, long before America became a country.don't look now sister, but Islaam has been around a lot longer that the American constitution,
It seems to be old fashoned to follow the Quraan and Sunnah, but it is new fashon to do your own thing.
If being in front and leading the salaat is what you feel should be done, then by all means start a new sect, call it the muslim women of america in islaam, God knows we have quite a lot of sects, and another one certainly wont hurt. lets see we have the Ahmadi sect, the Aga khan, the homosexual group from California.
Sister..Jump right in, and while you are at it, why wear the awful hijaab thingy..i believe you girls would look great in tank tops. and while we are at it, how 'bout a nice guitar band, just like the good christians.
Ps, while you are at it, have you memorised one ayah in the last year, last 5years?, you will need to do it to lead the salaat, or maybe you could just read from a book.
more power to the Americans, a nation who cannot stop tinkering.
I should know, I am Canadian and we are building a wall to keep them out..(smile)
I just love a lunatic. especially when she/he can be qualified by the title DR.

As for women's voices being arrousing... men's voices can do the same thing.  There are many sexy male voices out there.  Should we women ban those Imams and Shaykhs from leading prayers whose voices we find sexy?? :P

Peace.

My Dear Sis and Bro,

Exception are exception and we are not dealing with exception here. There is a large room for dealing with every kind of exceptional situation in Islam. So your example of 14 year boy (not well versed in relegion) vs well knowledgable lady is just an exception. However, what we are disscussing in this forum is in genarality of the principle. Kindly see if can make a distinction between the two. Rest Allah knows the best.

Dear. AhmadJoyia

The rules and sunnah regarding whom should lead the salaat, the prayer, is the one who knows more of the quraan by memorasition.
The reference to a 14 year old is an extreme example, what it actually means is one who in Fajr Salaat can read by memory sura Baqarra, or sura Al Imran. the voice is always different, we all have different voices, it the rendition that counts, remember the one who is leading cannot lead in devotion but can only lead in rendition.
If you want to satisy yourself in this matter, go to Fajr tomorrow, and listen carefully what is being read, this is the salaat where we have the most time to read and listen and absorb the quraan.
PS. on Friday mornings, the prophet SWS always read sura Insaan. i Hate to challenge you, and i dont mean to, but could you lead me in that sura?and how many ayas, verses does it have? and why are you consuming yourself with something you may not be able to do yourself, if called upon to lead, trust me, I sometimes lead the salaat, and it aint easy.
Memorise a sura, and life becomes a lil bit easier.one day you will be called to lead, and you know what? you like all of us will defer it to the one who know mor, even if he is 14
was salaqam

OK, well right now, if you must know, i am only 14 years old, so you probably know more than me.With the sura i will have to check in the Quran which won't be difficult. i will try to answer your request with sura Insaan as soon as i get a chance to.
