Its so hard to get ahold of fair and balanced work on any side of the stream.  It seems the evangelical set are less interested in scholarship and more interested in showing everyone outside of their belief set in the worst possible light.  They do it to us too.

I actually found this article rather offensive. Was it meant to be?

I think it was meant to say that the majority of Books by Christians about Islam are full of misinformation.  Considering it was a Christian publication.  I wouldn't expect it to be entirely defensive of Islam, but it did its best to at least show that the books themselves cannot be trusted for correct information.

No comment from me yet.  I haven't even had a chance to read it .

I posted the link because I assume most members would be interested in what mainstream Christian press is running.  Assuming most Muslims do not have a subscription to Christianity Today .  It's like the People Magazine of Christianity - big, not too deep.

"True, the Qur'an does lack integrity,"

"Islam has an undeniable dark side"

"puts Islam in a positive light whenever possible"

"True, Muhammad was as much a sinner as anyone"

These are quotes from the author of the article, not the books, and they are extremely offensive. I expect ignorance from most of the Evangelicals out there, and sensationalism to try and sell their books, but even in pointing out the fallacy of these books the author cannot help but demean Islam.

Why do Christians hate Muslims so much? Seriously. Most of them wouldn't know a tenet of Islam from a hole in the ground. They have probably never even talked to a Muslim, yet they are filled with hatred and vileness. The dark side of Christianity I guess.

DISCLAIMER:::  THE FOLLOWING RESPONSES ARE NOT MY PERSONAL OPINION ONLY AN EXPLAINATION OF A VIEWPOINT.

Though, I consider this false.  The Quran denies Jesus's death and divinity.  I'm sure his viewpoint on this statement is reflective of that.

"Islam has an undeniable dark side"

Whether 99% of Muslims believe it or not.  There are some very evil men who have hijacked your religion.  They use your scriptures to justify their behavior and claim to be doing their deeds in the name of your religion.  This is the dark side.  They are able to find justification in the Quran and Hadiths.  This is their misconception of Islam, but it marks Islam and marrs it.  This is a sad, sad thing.

"puts Islam in a positive light whenever possible"

Obviously, the author is as uneducated about Islam except in the way that allows for being an apologetic.

When we review historical tensions between the two faiths, we must apply rigorous historical analysis. When we write about Islam, we must remember that love is the greatest apologetic.

"True, Muhammad was as much a sinner as anyone"

They say this same thing about Joseph Smith.  Anyone who teaches counter to what they believe is sinning.  Anyone who teaches contrary to mainstream Christianity is obviously a sinner.  Which in my opinion is complete and utter trash.

That is why I made the comment that it really hard to find Book about Islam or that are a comparison of Islam and other religions that are not in some way tainted, biased and full of misinformation.

Oh well.  When Billy Graham's son calls Islam a Satanic religion, how can we expect any less from other evangelical christians?
