I think so. Our values and priorities are very different from that of my
mothers and grand mothers generation. My father and I however flew
2000 miles to be with my sister when my nephew (his Grandson) Jesse
was born.

Surprised to find in the Sunday Telegraph an Australian newspaper that there is currently a small number of Indian Jews who's family tree streches over a millenia in the Kashmiri region and Manipur.

Didn't think it possible due to geographics but indeed it seems Jewish merchants came and settled down in India due to trade. Found a website relating to this below if any were interested.

Wow Daniel - remind me to be standing next to you when there's a
huge disaster! Or sitting next to you when there's a train crash.

Where were you when I was falling off the horse???

Kim...

Better the horse than the wagon.

Train crash? What is with you and outdated modes of transportation?
Huge disasters?   I only do little ones. But I'd be happy to have you
stand next to me any time you like.

On the subject of "Jewish humor"
I'm not sure that we are as funny as we used to be.

There are numerous stories about The Jews living in India as to from where they came? As per my study in fact Hinduism is the offshoot of Judaism (most Hindus wont agree to this). And they did not come for merchandise in India. Once Prophet Moses (MPBUH) crossed over the Sea of Reeds with along with his nation (divided in 12 tribes), he hurried towards the Mount Sinai to receive instructions from God. He stayed there for 40 nights while his nation (Children of Israel) camped in the peninsula under the leadership of Prophet Aaron (Haroon). A magician with the name of Samri developed a cow of gold and most started worshipping the cow (as done by Hindus even today). Although the Old Testament throws the blame on Aaron, we Muslims take strong exception to this distorted fact. In fact Quran denounced this folly. Anyhow, once Moses (MPBUH) returned he was outraged. He prayed to Allah, that Samri be given exemplary punishment and he should say for rest of his life Do not touch me. So Samri developed a strange disease (some what similar to leprosy) and anyone touching him would feel pain while Samri would fall unconscious due to severe pain (this is the concept which formed the basis of caste system in Hinduism specially the untouchables). So all from Samri tribe became untouchables and later further branches of caste system emerged. Later Prophet Moses (PBUH) burnt that cow and dispersed its ashes in the sea which is even today done by Hindus to their dead.

Afterwards due to fear of internal fight each tribe was given a separate water spring which emerged as a miracle in that desert from Prophet Moses (MPBUH) stick. So these tribes remained there for some time but once they refused to fight the infidels alongside Prophet Moses, to take their land in Palestine, God punished them and they bewildered in the Sinai for 40 years. During this period the 12th tribe migrated towards the central Asia and probably landed in South Asia afterwards. Mixing up with the Aryans they formed a new religion which accommodated everyone whether a native or migrated. The exchange of rituals, amalgamation of gods and goddesses, exchange of customs and philosophy etc, finally took the shape of Hinduism. In all this period there remained a separate group of migrants which did not mix up with the natives and kept its identity as Jews and a group also remained separate of the native ruling class later known to be as Brahmans. Thats why till few years ago (100-150) the Brahmans were also named as Misar Jee and Misar is the Arabic word used for Egypt. So these Jews who are now doing Alyia or the migration to the Holy land

Nope. This is a total mish mosh of stories all of which I've heard in their
various entirety but certainly not in this sequence.
The lost tribes were so called only after the destruction of the second
temple by the Romans. The leprosy story rocks.

For all I know this could be true.
