As Salaam, I am having a hard time with Jinns. i don't quite understand what they are. I know they are created from smoke and that they can be good or bad. Since there is nothing in Christainity to compare them to I don't know what to make of them. are they like ghosts, can they be seen, what purpose do they serve?

Wa Alaikum Salam,
Jinns are very similair to humans in various ways. We cannot see them but they can see us at all times. Some differences between us and them are that they move faster with much more speed, they eat bones from animals, some jinns have the ability to in the form of a weak humans or animal, there are also a specific kind of jinn that fly while others don't. There are good jinns and bad ones. There are Muslim, Christian,Jewish and other religiously affiliated jinns. Those are some basics. If you would like to ask more specific questions, I will attempt to answer. |

Some eat bones and some fly? That is kind of wierd. What are their purpose? Do they help people or tempt people? What or who is a Christian jinn? Edited by senekerk |

Jinn are simply another form of life which is very different from us. Just as angles are a class of living beings unlike ourselves, Jinn are simply another class. Jinn can make decisions and choose religous faiths, which is why some Jinn may be Muslims. As humans, some Jinn are good and some are bad. |

"What are their purpose? " Same as us. "Do they help people or tempt people?" They have their own world you see but its here on earth but you cant see them or at least in their true form. Meaning they get married , have kids and so on. They generally just live in their own world without bothering anyone. As for the bad ones, ever herd of exorcism? They are the ones who, whats the word, enter I guess into a person. They have free will just like us, so ull find some are Muslims some are Christians some are Jews and so on. You summed it up, they're like ghosts but live like us humans we just cant see them. They can discuise as a human being but they barely do that.

OK let me see if I understand, they are beings who can not be seen, some are good or bad, they can choose their own religion and they marry? Sounds like they live in a parallel universe. do you think they account for alien sightings ? |

Assalaamualaikum Satan is from the Jinn. Jinn were created much before man was created. They usually live where men don't live ie. deserted places. They can see us , that is why we have supplications for going to the bathroom and while undressing, so that for that period of time, they cannot see us. Allah says: "And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone). "
do you think they account for alien sightings? Allah knows!! wassalaam. |
